Ty's Take
Homecoming week lands different when you're in a town this size. The schools go half-day Friday, which means somebody's already thought through the logistics of getting kids to the stadium, and the Zizzers swimmers have already given the whole week some momentum with three individual wins at their season opener. Meanwhile, the fire department's running their breakfast, the Eagle Wing Project's got their ham and bean supper kicking off Pioneer Days, and AFK just handed out seven grand to nonprofits working with local kids. That's not separate news, really. That's the week working the way weeks work around here, everybody moving in the same direction at once, raising money and raising hell and raising kids. Then you read the obits and the notice about the woman seriously injured, and you remember this is also a place where things can turn on you fast. The point is we show up for both. We always do.
