The sheriff's office is hiring, the overpass work is winding down, and somewhere in Jefferson City they're still tinkering with how high school sports appeals get handled—the kind of day-to-day machinery that keeps a county running whether anybody's paying attention or not. Most folks around here don't think much about MSHSAA rule changes until their kid's eligibility comes into question, and most won't know the 160 overpass is nearly finished until they see it done. But somebody's got to notice these things, keep track of them, remember why they matter six months from now when something hinges on how the work went or how the rules were written. That's just the rhythm of a county seat, the small decisions that add up to whether a place runs smooth or everything locks up.
