Route 66 hit its hundred-year mark this year, and watching that centennial caravan roll through Laclede County is the kind of thing that reminds you why this stretch of pavement matters so much to who we are. This town's always been a crossroads, a place where people passing through stopped long enough to eat, sleep, work, and sometimes stayed for good. The old highway nostalgia is real enough, but what caught my eye this week wasn't just the celebration of what was, it's what's happening now: the city meeting on sidewalk improvements, the library still drawing families in, a new ice cream shop opening up. Lebanon's not chasing the past. We're fixing our streets and building for the people who are here, the ones who work at the boat plants and fish Bennett Spring and raise their kids where their parents raised theirs.
