The rain that's been hammering us all week is exactly the kind of thing that forces a town like Silver City to look at itself honestly. A flood watch, recovery month, a data center moratorium, and now tonight's screwworm meeting all point to the same reality: we're managing risk in a landscape that doesn't always cooperate. The water pouring down the arroyos right now will soak into the same ground that miners once carved up, that conservationists protect fiercely, that artists and retirees and working folks all depend on. There's no easy way to thread that needle, but at least we're showing up to talk about it instead of pretending the problems solve themselves.
