Thomas Ocie Williams, who died this week at 91, spent most of his life right here in the Mesilla Valley, and that kind of staying power means something in a town that's been churning through growth and change like ours has these past couple decades. When you read the obits in a paper like this, you're really reading the bones of a place, the people who watched it become what it is now. Williams was part of that foundation. We don't always know their full stories until they're gone, and by then there's nobody left to ask what they saw happen to these streets and farms and neighborhoods.
