Ty's Take

Clarence Villemez worked this valley long enough to see the whole thing transform—the orchards give way to subdivisions, the water arguments get meaner every year, and the young people either leave or stay and figure out how to make it work anyway. His obit in this week's paper is the kind that matters around here, the kind that reminds you that somebody knew how to do things the old way, and now that knowledge walks out the door. The art classes and the care work that fill the rest of these columns—that's how we try to hold the place together now, with serenity and intention, in the space between what we've lost and what we're building. That's not criticism. That's just how it goes.
