Bernie Carrillo made it to 92, which around here means he saw the valley change from irrigation ditches and family farms to what it is now, and probably had opinions about most of it. That's the actual backbone of a place like this. Not the big stories that make the regional news. The fact that when someone sees a need, or when they've got an idea and the guts to try it, they just get to work. These are the hands-on people who keep the Hatch Valley running between harvests.
