Thomas Ocie Williams, who spent most of his life around the Mesilla Valley, passed away this week at 86. The obituaries don't always tell you much, and this one won't either, but in a town like Hatch you know what it means when someone makes it to that age in farm country. He saw the valley change, saw the water fights come and go, probably roasted his share of chiles and watched younger people leave for bigger places. That's the real story in the Bulletin's death notices, always has been. The people who stayed, who knew what they were staying for.
