Thomas Ocie Williams, who spent most of his life around the Mesilla Valley, passed this week at 89. The obituary doesn't say much, the way they usually don't, but around here we know what those years meant. They meant watching this valley grow from something smaller into what it is now, meant seeing the chile industry change hands and methods, meant being part of a community that doesn't often make the papers but doesn't need to. The older ones among us are getting fewer, and each one that goes takes with them a piece of how things used to run around here.
