The Senior Resource Fair coming up is the kind of thing that doesn't make anybody's blood pump faster, but it should. Around here we've got folks who spent sixty, seventy years working this land, raising families, and now they're trying to figure out Medicare paperwork or whether they can afford to heat the house come January, and most of them won't ask for help until they're already in trouble. Getting people in the same room with somebody who actually knows the system before the crisis hits, before the phone call to a grown child saying they can't manage anymore, that's the difference between somebody keeping their dignity and independence and somebody losing it. It's the kind of quiet prevention work that saves money and heartache both, and it's worth showing up for even if the resource fair doesn't sound like much on paper.
