Ty's Take
Kyle Busch was 41 years old, which means a whole generation of kids in this town grew up watching him tear up a racetrack—some of them probably out in the garage right now working on their own machines, dreaming the same dream. You don't have to follow racing to understand what that loss means to a place like Deming, where people still know how to work with their hands and respect somebody who's the best at what they do. The wildfire warnings coming down as the weather turns dry hit different this year too, with New Mexico's fire season creeping earlier every year and water already the conversation we can't stop having. Spring's coming whether we're ready or not, and around here that means keeping your head up on two fronts—the dry brush and the dry wells.
