Ty's Take

The mine hearing on electricity this week is worth paying attention to, even if you've tuned out the Copper Flat debates before. Right now the real question isn't whether we need the jobs or whether we need the water, it's whether the grid out here can actually handle what a mine like that would pull. We've got Spaceport America drawing power thirty miles east, we've got irrigation demands that never quit, and we've got a power infrastructure that wasn't exactly built for boom times. The state's going to hear from people who want development and people who don't, but the question nobody sidesteps forever is whether the lights stay on when you turn the key.
