Ty's Take

The talk around town lately keeps circling back to the same handful of things: who gets to build what, where the water goes, what kind of growth we're willing to live with. Up in Buena Vista they're working through their budget and wrestling with water augmentation for the schools, which tells you something about pressure on the valley's infrastructure. Here in Salida, we've got developers making their case for different zoning, and that's how it should work, but it's also how a small town wakes up ten years later and doesn't recognize itself. Nothing wrong with growth or progress, but it moves faster than most of us can think about. The river's still here, the peaks are still there, and we'd all do well to stay clear-eyed about what we're trading away.
