The boil-water advisory that wrapped up this week was one of those reminders that infrastructure in a town our size lives on borrowed time if nobody's paying attention. We dodged what could've been a real public health mess, and that's not luck, that's people doing their jobs right when the systems started talking to them. Meanwhile the copper mine hearing keeps grinding along on questions that'll matter more to Sierra County's future than most of us want to admit, the school board is sorting out what comes next with its staff, and out on the course somebody named Funkhouser just won the state open, which beats any editorial about perseverance you could write. Some days the news tells you what you already know about this place. Some days it just reminds you to be grateful for the folks keeping the lights on and the water clean.
