Truth or Consequences has never been shy about its name, and this weekend proved we're not shy about much else either. Pride Weekend brought color to Main Street—literal rainbows, but also the kind of visible acceptance that wasn't always a given in a place like ours, where old ranching traditions run deep and newcomers have been trickling in for decades. You saw families walking together, you saw folks from Elephant Butte and Williamsburg who'd normally stay quiet, and you saw the kind of community that decides it's big enough to celebrate people for who they are. In a county that's built its identity on reinvention—we changed our whole name fifty years ago—maybe that shouldn't surprise us. But it's worth noting when a small town chooses to be generous instead of small.
