Ty's Take

Montana's kept same-day voter registration, which means come November folks in Carbon County can still walk in and register at the polls if they haven't done it yet—no advance paperwork required. There's something to be said for that kind of flexibility in a place where people are scattered across ranch country and the high valleys, where mail gets delayed and life moves on its own schedule. It's not a perfect system, and election judges know the headache it can create, but it honors something about how this state operates: we trust our neighbors to show up honest, and we don't make it harder than it needs to be.
