Ty's Take

There's something worth sitting with in today's news, the kind of thing that doesn't make the front page but maybe should. We've got our library doing good work expanding what kids can do and learn, a blood drive coming up, a photography club meeting—the small fabric that holds a town together. And then we read that maternal death rates are climbing nationally, and you realize that whatever we're building here, whatever programs and community efforts we're proud of, depends on the most basic thing: people staying healthy enough to show up for it. Pagosa's scattered enough, and remote enough, that when a woman needs emergency obstetric care, minutes matter. That's not abstract. It's the mother teaching at the school, working at the bank, sitting in the library with her kids.
