School funding always comes down to the same hard question, and the R-3 board punted on it again this week by tabling a decision on the property tax rate. Nobody likes raising taxes, least of all in a manufacturing town where families are already stretched thin, but the board knows what's coming whether they vote now or later. Bennett Spring brings tourists through here, the boat plants keep paychecks steady, but neither of those things builds school buildings or pays teachers without the money sitting in the account. Delaying the vote doesn't change the math. It just delays the conversation that matters.
