Ty's Take
There's something worth noticing when a local maker decides to turn creativity into commerce, especially in a town where most of us still think of economy in terms of what grows in the ground or what the university brings in. These plushie artisans are doing what a lot of young people around here are figuring out—that Las Cruces has enough foot traffic, enough families, enough people just passing through on I-10 to support small businesses that wouldn't have a prayer in a town half this size. It's not pecans or chile, and it won't show up in the agricultural reports, but it's exactly the kind of thing that keeps downtown from becoming another collection of empty storefronts. The Mesilla Valley's economy is changing whether we plan for it or not, and sometimes that change starts with someone making something colorful and hoping people stick around long enough to buy it.
