Ty's Take
Clarence Villemez spent seventy-eight years in this valley—long enough to watch the cottonwoods along the Rio Grande get crowded out by subdivisions, long enough to see what irrigation built and what thirst takes away. The obituary doesn't say much, the way they usually don't, but anybody who knew Clare knew he was the kind of man who watched things change and kept working anyway. That matters in a place like Las Cruces, where half the town is new and half is still rooted in what came before, and we need both kinds.
