Bob Steffens made it to 82 in a place that doesn't give up its years easy, which says something about the man. He was here through the dry cycles and the wet ones, through the university's ups and downs, through all the arguments about water that never quite get settled around the San Luis Valley. Folks who've been around Alamosa long enough know the ones who stay, who dig in, who become part of how a town actually works. That's who gets remembered in the obits that matter. The rest of us are just passing through.
