Sherry Perdue's been around long enough to know that county commissioner isn't a job you take to make friends—it's one you take because somebody's got to make the hard calls about water, roads, and land use in a valley where every decision touches somebody's livelihood. Her district covers territory that's been fought over since the Spanish land grants, and these days that fight's mostly about keeping agriculture alive while the valley changes around it. She's not running on promises; she's running on a track record of showing up to the meetings where the real work happens, the ones that don't make anybody happy but keep the lights on.
