Ty's Take
The Great Sand Dunes pulled in more visitors than ever these first four months of the year, which tells you something about what people are hungry for—space, silence, something that doesn't require a WiFi password. That's good news for the valley's wallet, though anybody who's driven out there lately knows the parking lots are getting tight and the trails are getting crowded. We've built something worth protecting here, and the harder question isn't how to bring more people in but how to keep what made them want to come in the first place. Meanwhile, the levee work moves forward and Adams State keeps building its reputation with graduate programs that'll keep smart people from having to leave. Spring's coming to the valley the way it always does—with work to do and visitors on the way.
