The dog attack at Riverside Park during FIBArk—a golden retriever killed by another dog in broad daylight, in front of families—is the kind of thing that catches a river town off guard. We're used to the chaos of festival week, the rafters and the noise and the controlled mayhem of boats in fast water. But when it spills into the park where kids are playing and somebody's pet doesn't go home, it pulls you back to the fact that even paradise needs rules, and somebody's got to enforce them. The sheriff's office is investigating, which is right. For now, most of us are just thinking about the family that lost their dog, and wondering what comes next.
