Ty's Take

The Quill's sweep at the state press awards this year says something worth noting about a small-town newsroom: when you're covering ground that matters to people, when you're showing up at the stockyards and the school board and the courthouse, that work gets recognized. Editor Hess taking on the MPA secretary role is one more sign that West Plains still punches above its weight in Missouri journalism, which matters because a region this size needs people who understand that a cattle report and a house fire and a girl stepping up to the plate in district tournament play all belong in the same paper on the same day. Around here, they all do. That's the job.
