Ty's Take
Ralph Riggs handing off a surveying award to his brother Ray, who's carrying on the work here in Howell County, tells you something about how this country runs. These aren't glamour jobs, marking property lines and running baselines across rough timber and pasture, but they're foundational, the kind of work that keeps land deals honest and neighbors from feuding over fence corners. When a man does that work well enough that his family keeps at it, keeps the standards high, that's worth noticing on a Monday morning. The power outage in Thayer and the volunteer call from Mountain View Fire are reminders too, in their own way, that this region depends on people willing to show up and do the unglamorous necessary work. That's just how we get by around here.
