Ty's Take

Four hours is a long time to wait on a standoff to end, whether you're the law enforcement holding position or the family wondering what comes next. That felony charge that followed tells you this wasn't some misunderstanding that got smoothed over with coffee and conversation, the kind of thing that used to stay local. It also tells you the sheriff's office and whoever else responded knew what they were dealing with and handled it the way it had to be handled. Around here we don't get a lot of those calls, which is exactly why when we do, it matters that the people trained for it show up ready and calm. Meantime, the fact that local agencies are working alongside federal agents on meth busts says something about the reach of what's coming through Howell County, and it ought to tell every one of us something about what we're up against.
