Ty's Take

Marideth Sisco spent decades telling the stories of these hills—first as a reporter chasing the news, then as a voice on the radio bringing Ozark voices into living rooms across the region. She died this week at 82, and with her goes a particular kind of witness, the kind that comes from staying put in a place long enough to understand not just what happens, but why it matters to the people living through it. West Plains loses one of its keepers of memory, the sort of journalist who knew that a good story about these mountains was never really about the mountains at all.
