Ty's Take
The boil-water advisory came and went without the kind of panic that could've shut this town down, which says something about how we've learned to handle our vulnerabilities around here. But that calm shouldn't let us off the hook when it comes to the bigger fight brewing over water, electricity, and what Copper Flat Mine actually means for a county that's already watching Elephant Butte like a hawk watches a field. Norm Gaume's right that the math has changed since anybody first dreamed up that operation, and a hearing on power requirements is just the technical face of a much harder question: how many of our future options are we willing to trade away for what we're being promised today. The real consequence of truth, sometimes, is that it forces you to choose.
