Ty's Take

The money's finally there for the wastewater plant, which ought to tell you something about how long we've been asking for it, and the football team's running hot while the pool shuts down for the season, but the real conversation happening this week is the one nobody wants to have easy. Copper Flat's back in front of us again, and this time it's about whether those filtered tailings will stay put in the desert where they belong or end up in places they don't. The mine's been a lightning rod here for years, half the county seeing jobs and half seeing risk, and that doesn't change depending on how you engineer the ponds. What changes is whether we ask the hard questions now or wish we had later, and that hearing's where those questions get asked out loud.
