The hospital's budget passed, which is good news for a place like ours where the nearest alternatives are a half hour or more down the road, and the wildfire crews are gearing up for another season that seems to start earlier and run hotter every year. You can't separate those two facts. A functioning emergency room matters when lightning hits brush in July, and brush fires don't care much about fiscal years or budget cycles. What matters is that Sierra Vista will be there when we need it, and that our volunteer fire services have the backing they're asking for. Around here, summer's coming whether we're ready or not, so it's worth taking a minute to be grateful when the county gets both things right at the same time.
