Ty's Take
Water, jobs, and how we run this county. That's the order they usually come in around here, and today's paper lands all three on the table at once. The copper mine hearing is the big one, because that operation sits upstream and anything that happens to the Rio Grande upstream ends up in somebody's irrigation ditch downstream, and we've had enough years of fighting over these waters already. Meanwhile, the Spaceport's still sorting itself out on the accountability front, which matters if we're betting our economic future on that industry moving in. And then there's the police building contract going to El Paso, which is one more reminder that we're a small county trying to do business in a bigger world. None of these stories resolve anything today, but they're the three conversations this community needs to have out loud.
