The commissioners made the right call on that data center moratorium, even if the reasoning got buried in the usual back-and-forth. Thing is, we've got Spaceport America finally gaining traction after years of slow builds and broken promises, and slapping a massive power-hungry server farm out there would've choked off the very water and electrical capacity that the space industry needs to actually grow. Water's the real story though: T or C holds senior rights on the Rio Grande, which means this town has leverage that most desert communities don't get, and throwing that away on a data center play while Elephant Butte levels remain unpredictable would've been short money. The commissioners gave themselves 18 months to sort out what kind of industrial future makes sense out here, and that's a fair bet that we actually think before we build.
