The commission's interim budget reads like a wish list from folks who've forgotten what happens when the Rio Grande runs low and Elephant Butte can't cover the irrigation season. You can talk goals and improvements all you want, but this county lives and dies on water, and right now nobody's explaining how we pay for the basics when the lake level drops another ten feet. A helicopter landing at the park is fine for a Saturday afternoon—Lord knows we need the tourism traffic—but it shouldn't distract us from the fact that long-term survival around here means boring infrastructure, not circuses. The commission needs to show us they understand the difference.
