Ty's Take
There's a particular kind of hope baked into a small town that plants trees. Not the ornamental kind you put in because a developer says you have to, but the kind where someone tracks down a sapling that flew to the moon and back, and the school decides Silver City ought to have one growing here. That's what happens when you've got people who still believe in the frontier, even if the frontier now includes space travel. Meanwhile, the chanclas are flying at the Tamal Fiesta Saturday (as they should), and down at the watch party, the kids are still talking about what comes next in the world they're inheriting. It's a decent week when your community can hold all three things at once: old traditions, serious conversations about the future, and a tree that once orbited the earth.
