Ty's Take
Screwworm's back in Grant County, which if you've been around livestock or wildlife here for any length of time, you know that's the kind of news that gets everybody's attention real quick. The parasitic fly doesn't care whether you're running cattle, managing the Gila, or just trying to keep your place standing. Two new cases means the infection zone is spreading, and that usually means a lot of folks are about to get a lot busier with veterinary calls and animal checks. The state's going to be all over this, but so should we, because screwworm doesn't respect property lines or the distance between the ranch and the wilderness. This is the kind of problem that reminds you why we need neighbors talking to neighbors, and why the old knowledge about protecting livestock still matters more than most folks living here today probably realize.
