Ty's Take

The Commons pulled off something worth celebrating this fall, and that matters more than most fundraisers do around here. When an organization built on the idea that art and community belong together actually gets people to show up and open their wallets, it's a sign something's taking hold in Silver City that wasn't here fifteen years ago. Meanwhile, out in the Gila, the feds are making noise about removing a native fish from the endangered species list, which is the kind of bureaucratic victory that makes you wonder who it actually helps and who it quietly hurts. Between the weather warnings coming down from Grant County and Cobre's audit headaches, it's been one of those weeks where the town's doing two different things at once: building something new while trying to keep the old machinery from falling apart.
