Ty's Take
October lands here every year with the same proclamation, the same ribbons and awareness weeks, and then November comes and the problem doesn't disappear with the calendar. County fairs keep running because volunteers show up year after year, same as the people who answer crisis calls at 2 a.m., same as the social workers who know which houses need checking on when the weather turns cold and the drinking season starts. We've got solid waste to manage and ordinances to pass, the ordinary machinery of a town that works, but none of that happens without people deciding to care about the hard stuff that doesn't make the front page most of the year. Domestic violence doesn't take a break in November.
