Ty's Take

The burro race is back on Boston Hill this weekend, which means Silver City's still got enough grit and humor to laugh at itself, and that matters more than you'd think when you're sitting in the middle of conversations about data centers and what comes next for Grant County. Over at the commission meeting, folks showed up to talk about whether we want industrial server farms sucking power out here in the high desert, and you can feel the old tension in the room, the one that's always been here: do we chase the money or do we protect what makes this place worth living in? Meanwhile, a couple is betting their time and capital on Bayard's Burrito Caliente, betting that people still want to gather over good food at a neighborhood table, which is its own kind of economic vote. Those three things don't add up to a contradiction. They're just the texture of a town trying to stay itself while figuring out how to pay the bills.
