Ty's Take

The data center fight brewing in Grant County is the real story today, not because it's new (these things circle back), but because opposition is organizing before the bulldozers show up instead of after. That's how you change an outcome in rural New Mexico. Meanwhile, the town's wrestling with smaller questions that matter just as much: off-leash dogs on Boston Hill, athletic field upgrades in the schools, gem show marketing that keeps tourist dollars flowing. None of it gets solved in a vacuum. A county that's still sorting out its tax rolls and audit findings doesn't have much room for expensive mistakes, whether that's a data center that doesn't pencil out or infrastructure that doesn't serve the kids who live here. The people showing up to these meetings now, early, are the ones who've learned that waiting until something's already decided is too late.
