The Silco coming back to life in time for the film festival says something true about this town that the trash rate argument doesn't quite capture, though both are worth your attention. One is Silver City deciding it still believes in gathering together in a dark room to watch stories unfold, which costs money and takes faith in the future. The other is Silver City realizing that faith doesn't pay the bills, and somebody's got to pick up after all of us. The real story isn't which side wins this argument. It's that we're still having it at all, which means the place isn't dead yet, even when it feels cheaper to pretend it is.
