Back-to-school season tends to hide the harder conversations around here, and Wednesday night in Bayard is proof. It's the kind of unsexy budget work that doesn't make headlines, but it's what keeps the lights on when nobody's looking. Meanwhile, the DA's office is stacking wins on repeat offenders through federal prosecution, which matters more than most realize in a place where petty crime and real crime can blur together when folks are struggling.
