The town council's got its knives out over the budget again, which is always fun to watch when you've got one side worried about keeping the lights on and another side worried about whether we're spending enough on the things that make this place worth staying in. Meanwhile the school board's doing the rounds at Harrison Schmitt Elementary, the Fourth is about to swallow up most of our weekends with ice cream and fireworks at Gough Park, and the parade will do what it always does, remind us that Silver City still knows how to throw a party even when we're arguing about how to pay for it. Nothing wrong with that contradiction. It's honest.
