Spring's here and the wild things are moving back into town like they never really left. A bear in Little Walnut, fawns scattered through the neighborhoods, and now word that folks need to stop picking up the baby deer because mama's usually watching from fifty yards away. It's the same conversation we have every year, and every year somebody's instinct is to help. Meanwhile, down in Pinos Altos, the old Catholic church is being deconsecrated after more than a century of holding marriages and funerals and quiet prayers. One building losing its sacred purpose while the animals outside are just reclaiming what they consider home. There's something in that irony worth sitting with.
