Road crews had NM 92 back open by afternoon yesterday after the flooding that shut it down, which if you've been trying to get anywhere east toward Lordsburg or the I-10 corridor, you already know. The bigger story underneath is how fast conditions can change around here when the monsoon decides to show up, and how dependent we still are on a handful of routes that nature doesn't much care about. Meanwhile the hummingbird fest and the P.E.O. women out walking for causes worth supporting, they're the kind of Silver City days that remind you this town's got more going on than just waiting for the next road closure or the next crash on the highway. We're not a place that sits still, not entirely. Some of us are just luckier about which direction we're moving.
