Ty's Take
August heat's been sitting on us for three weeks now, and we've all gotten comfortable with the dry spell. That changes come Friday, when the National Weather Service is calling for heavy rain and flash flood potential across Grant County. Anyone who's been here more than one season knows what that means: the washes fill fast, the arroyos run mean, and folks in the low spots need to get serious about their evacuation plans. If you're camping in the Gila or anywhere near a wash, check that forecast hourly. If you're driving, don't test the water. We've lost people trying to shortcut across flooded crossings, and we don't need to lose anyone else to a moment of thinking it won't be that bad.
