Grant County's losing its county manager in October, which means somebody's got to know where all the bodies are buried, figuratively speaking. That's institutional knowledge you can't fake, and it usually takes a new person six months just to figure out which vendor actually shows up when they're supposed to. Meanwhile, the Harrison Schmitt museum is still waiting on a roof that should've been done by now, and the climate control's sitting in limbo somewhere between the budget and reality. At least the gazebo over at Gough Park is getting its due, fifty years holding up in this sun and wind without much complaint. That's the kind of durability we ought to be thinking about when we're replacing our people and our buildings both.
