Folks getting caught up in a vacant land swindle while we're sitting under a flood advisory is about as on-brand as Silver City gets these days. Some outfit's out there convincing property owners they owe taxes or fees on land that isn't theirs, which is the kind of scam that preys on people who can't easily verify what they own or don't. Meanwhile the sky's doing what it does in monsoon season, and anybody who's been here more than one July knows that flash water moves faster than a phone call. The county's doing right putting out warnings on both fronts. But here's the thing: when it rains hard, we all get focused on the creeks and the arroyos. That's exactly when somebody with a clipboard and a smooth story figures you're too busy to ask hard questions. Stay sharp out there.
