Ty's Take

Western New Mexico University is getting named the regional STEM hub, which sounds like the kind of thing that looks good on a grant application but might actually matter out here. A university town needs something more than just enrollment numbers and football games, and if WNMU can pull in the resources and students that come with that designation, well, that's good for Silver City generally. Meanwhile, Freeport's latest earnings call doesn't move the needle much for most folks around the table, but the 4-H kids out celebrating at state conference, that's worth noticing. That's the future right there, the ones who actually know how to do something with their hands.
