The road back into the high country opens again this week, which matters more than it sounds—not just for the folks who were evacuated, but for the whole delicate balance this county's been trying to strike for years. When Bursum Road closes, it's a reminder that fire season out here isn't abstract or seasonal; it's the thing that can cut you off from your own backyard, your evacuation routes, your escape.
